Becoming a Girlfriend (Part I): Metamorphosis

Becoming a girlfriend must be a lot like turning into a giant cockroach—like Gregory Samsa in Kafka’s Metamorphosis. Of course, the analogy may be pretty flawed, since you don’t turn into a cockroach so much as you turn into a giant ball of paranoid, neurotic and worrying mess. I guess it hits more when you’re not as girly as the girl-next-door.

The Lowdown on Office Romance: Keeping Low-Key in the Workplace

I’ve always imagined that getting into a relationship with a co-worker meant getting naughty in the lift, getting snogged in a cubicle, doing the dirty in some dark corner in the building. It builds up excitement, it’s refreshing, but it’s also not as glamorous as I’ve always imagined it to be. Apparently, hormones die down after college.

In Love: The Neurotic Stage

The Neurotic Stage occurs after that really awesome first date (or first hang-out or whatever it is you call it these days. Part of the confusion in the Neurotic Stage comes from not knowing whether what you had was really a date or not). You’ve had a lot of first dates before, but this one was different. There was so much electricity in the air, both of you could have powered a nuclear plant. You felt a strong connection with him that you’ve never experienced with other guys. Despite all this, you’re still unsure about what this one thinks about you and if he felt the same connection you did. That’s when the neuroticism kicks in.
